Over the past few years, it has become clear to many service provider organisations that the EU initiates much legislation that is transposed into national or regional law. More than 60% of national laws in any EU Member State are influenced by EU legislation or case law, which clearly affects social services and the disability sector in Europe. Disability policies are no longer a matter of national competence only. It is necessary that both Governments and non-governmental organisations take an active part in international initiatives with regard to disability, as they influence EASPD's members and their staff as well as the service users and families they support.
This explains why one of the main pillars of EASPD is policy impact, and one of its main objectives is about giving the sector a political voice at European level. This section of the website, gives an overview of EASPD's re- and pro-active agenda on policies affecting the European disability sector.
