What is ImPaCT in Europe?
It is a project funded under the Lifelong Learning Programme of DG Education and Culture. It started on the 1st of January 2009 and will run for 3 years.
Its objective is to set up a network to facilitate the development and implementation of Person Centred Technology (PCT) for the benefit of key stakeholders in the health and social care sectors. PCT brings together the use of ICT, Electronic Assistive Technology (EAT), telecare, telehealth and telemedicine and involves the user first and foremost in designing the technological solutions to meet their individual needs.
Why is ImPaCT in Europe needed?
ImPaCT in Europe is a project aiming to demonstrate how assistive technology and ICT can significantly support independence for people with disabilities and their carers. It is designed to raise awareness of the benefits of Person Centered Technology. PCT can substantially improve quality of life and open up potential employment opportunities for the individual.
The findings will be used to lobby governments for general policy initiatives which will ensure that the provision of PCT is primarily to improve users’ and carers’ quality of life and secondly to make efficient use of resources.

Partner organisations are from Belgium (Vzw Gouverneur Kinsbergen - Gehandicaptenzorg provincie Antwerpen – Modem and PPG), England (Nottingham Community Housing Association and HFT), France (Centre de la Gabrielle - Mutualité Fonction Publique), Finland (Finnish Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities - FAIDD), the Netherlands (Philadelphia/Espria), Portugal (Centro de Educação para o Cidadão Deficiente de Mira Sintra), and Wales (Learning Disability Wales).
