SensAge Project

SensAge – Lifelong Learning Needs for Ageing People with Sensory Disabilities

Project duration: October 2011 – September 2014

SensAge brought together partners from 14 partners from 11 different countries and 43 associated partners in one common goal: improving the situation of ageing people with sensory disabilities through the effective development of lifelong learning strategies.

The term ‘ageing’ depends upon the personal, social, medical, disability and statutory circumstances of each person and its definition, including that of starting age, varies in each Member State. This is why a European Network dedicated to identifying and addressing the issues of the aging people with sensory disabilities across Europe is needed.

The overall aim of SensAge is to become the reference point within the European Union for developments in lifelong learning and enablement of ageing people with sensory disabilities in order to maintain their independence and to improve their quality of life.

The objectives of SensAge are:

  • To reach a common understanding of what ‘ageing’ means and its link with sensory disabilities and to define the resulting  main challenges- in practice, law and in the policy making processes

  • To create a space for gathering, exchange and dissemination of practices and materials in this field

  • Through  this and other means, to contribute to appropriate EU standards of support for lifelong learning for beneficiaries and to maximize the impact of the work through political lobbying at European and National levels

  • Through all appropriate means of dissemination, to maximize on an ongoing basis the impact of the work of the Network at European and National levels through, among others:

  • Organisations working with and for ageing people with sensory disabilities
  • Beneficiary Organisations
  • Statutory Agencies
  • Adult Education Providers
  • Community Based Service Providers
  • Staff Training Providers

  • To establish the sustainability of the work of the Network after the completion of the period of EC funding
