Press Release. Social Service Providers and MEPs: “Let's cooperate on an Action Plan for Job Creation”

Social service providers and policy makers convened at the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels on 26 March to work together on how to put social investment back on the European Commission’s agenda. The breakfast session was organised by Social Services Europe, which brings together eight Europe-wide networks of not-for-profit social service providers. Through its membership, Social Services Europe represents over 100,000 organisations throughout Europe. Read more
 

EASPD participates in a symposium on the challenges ahead for persons with disabilities in Wallonia

EASPD Vice-president and Director of Learning Disability Wales, Jim Crowe, intervened during the symposium and presented the Welsh experience in transforming services to promote independent living. He highlighted that “services must be built-up to meet the needs of the individual”. Read more
 

From institutions to living in the Community: The EEG work

Do you know what The European Expert Group (EEG) on the Transition from Institutional to Community-Based Care is? EASPD is part of this group that was set up a few years ago with the aim of promoting Deinstitutionalisation in Europe, following the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rigths of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD). POLICY UPDATES

Tackling long-term unemployment through support services: EASPD’s recommendations

The European Commission (EC) has recently launched a public consultation asking for recommendations to tackle long-term unemployment in Europe. In view of contributing as early as possible into the EC's work, the European Association of Service providers for Persons with Disabilities (EASPD) has developed a position paper presenting the key factors needed for support services to effectively contribute to tackling long-term unemployment in Europe; not only of persons with disabilities, but all disadvantaged groups. EASPD calls on the EC to implement measures which provide a win-win situation for both the employee and employer and recommends the “STAR” holistic approach. Read more
 

EASPD participates in the UN's first evaluation phase of the report submitted by the EU

EASPD is following closely the EU-UN dialogue and took part to the first phase of the evaluation, raising its proposals for the List of Issues during an ad hoc hearing. Read more
 

Progress or Decline? Eurostat’s Review of Sustainability Goals

EASPD reviewed the Eurostat 2015 report to analyze data relevant to EASPD's mission. Most of the information available in the report addressed the ageing population, employment rates and labor migration as endemic to poverty and social exclusion. Read more

The European Core Learning Outcomes for the Integration of Support and Housing (ELOSH) is a project EASPD is coordinating that addresses the need for Continuing Vocational Education and Training on the integration of support and housing for people with support needs. Read more

Access to Justice for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (AJuPID) is a project EASPD is partner to, with the aim of improving access to justice for people with intellectual disabilities (PwID). Read more

Acknowledging that peer counselling is crucial to empower persons with disabilities, Upper Austria established – for the first time worldwide – peer counselling as an official social profession, approving people with physical, psychosocial, and intellectual disabilities as skilled professionals in their field. The International Design For All Foundation Award announces its 5 winners at the event's 6th edition at Uberaccess, Paris. Read more
 

New handbook published on how to implement the Investing in Children EC Recommendation

The 2013 European Commission Recommendation “Investing in Children: Breaking the cycle of disadvantage” presented a comprehensive policy approach to child poverty and well-being. A new Implementation Handbook by the EU Alliance for Investing in Children shows how Member States can translate the policy guidelines into action. Read more
 

European Commission launches the 2015 European Social Innovation Competition

Based around the theme 'New Ways to Grow' the competition aims to support inviduals and organisations with entrepreneurial, game changing ideas for social innovation projects. The top winning projects will receive valuable support and the best will win? 50 000 prize! The deadline for submission is 8 Mai 2015. Read more

Nordic Day. Children and young people can't wait - Improving well-being through cooperation

In its 2015's annual conference to celebrate the Nordic Day, the Nordic Centre for Welfare and Social Issues (NVC) will highlight specific work practices to reduce the risk of exclusion. This event will serve as a prelude to the 23rd European Social Services (ESN) Conference, which this year will take place in Lisbon from 6 to 8 July. Read more
 

Syneas and Fegapei propose to their adherents to create a new professional organization

The Executive Boards of Fegapei and Syneas met on the 2 of April and unanimously convened to adopt a motion which validates a common political project that is based on the vision, the ambition and the values shared by both organizations. To support this project, they affirm in this motion their will to create, together, a new entity representing the non-profit employer organizations of the Medico-social, Health and Social sectors. The setting up of the new body will be similar to a merger by formation of a new entity. Read more

Putting all the pieces together can be challenging. You have all those shapes (funding streams), forms (project ideas) and colors (different partner profiles)... but how to get the final picture without getting puzzled? The 2015 edition of the EASPD Project Development Workshop wants to offer participants with 2 EXTRA DIMENSIONS on how to reach your goal! We will follow a “3D approach”. Read more
 

7- 8 May: EASPD Annual Conference on Employment in Zadar, Croatia

The conference 'Persons with Disabilities in Employment: Inclusion through Jobs - Making it Real' will showcase best practices from across Europe on employment and disability. Participants will have the chance to understand what support persons with disabilities need to successfully integrate in the open labour market and to be able to access a job after finishing school. The nominees of the Employment for All awards will also be presenting their candidatures. Don’t miss this opportunity. Registration is opened until 10 April. Read more
 

7 May: EASPD Workshops on inclusive employment in 7 different job areas

All participants to the annual conference will have the opportunity to share their experiences and best practices during the different thematic workshops which will take place Thursday 7 May from 14:30-16:00. Read more
 

2nd June: EASPD hearing “Lights, camera, action! The Co-production process: shaping all together a more inclusive society”

EASPD is organising a panel debate with the Members of the European Parliament, the organisations representing persons with disabilities and service providers on how to reinforce “Users’ involvement” in all aspects of service provision. Read more
 

17-18 September. 'Play, Learn, Grow’: Training on Early Intervention

The training course aims to develop the understanding and expertise of teachers, trainers, headmasters and staff on early intervention for persons with disabilities. The course provides a certificate delivered by a European training organisation. Read more
