Dismantling barriers to community-living
The Expert Group on the transition from institutional to community-based care calls on the European Commission to adopt a Recommendation on the transition from institutional to community-based care that would pave the way for policies truly in line with the EU's international human rights obligations, and the European Parliament to stand up for their constituents across the EU who are victims of segregation and deprivation by declaring their political support to the efforts made by the EC, Member States and civil society. Guidelines for an accessible environment!
The European Committee for Standardization and the European Committee for Electro-technical Standardization provide guidelines on how to take into account the needs of older persons and persons with disabilities when designing everyday products and services. Read more
Outcomes of the conference on people with disabilities in disaster preparedness and response
How can people with hearing impairment contact emergency services? How can civil protection officials be trained to better support people with disabilities in emergency situations? These and other practical questions were addressed at the Conference on People with Disabilities in Disaster Preparedness and Response organised by the Council of Europe in Brussels on 4 and 5 December 2014 under the auspices of the Belgian Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. Emily O'Reilly re-elected as European Ombudsman
The European Ombudsman, Emily O'Reilly, has been re-elected by the European Parliament with 569 votes in favour out of 678 MEPs voting. Her mandate will last for five years. Read more
Employment For All Award 2015
EASPD continues to encourage social services and employers active in all European countries to present their best practices that have proven to be effective in creating better employment- and career- opportunities for people with disabilities. Both social organizations (for profit and not for profit) and employers from all over Europe are invited to participate in the second edition of this Award; the European Prize for best practices in supporting People with disabilities on the labour-market. The European Parliament renews its support for the social economy and the disability intergroups
The European Association of Service providers for Persons with Disabilities (EASPD) welcomes the European Parliament's announcement to re-establish the Social Economy Intergroup and hopes that it will be able to support the push for the development of a political, legal and financial framework which ensures that the Social and Health Services sector maximises its potential to create quality jobs and help fight poverty and social exclusion in Europe. EASPD also embraces the renewal of the Disability Intergroup and will support its work, putting efforts in to speeding up the transition from institutional to community living for persons with disabilities. The new European parliament’s priorities for the disability sector
On such an important day such as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, service providers from across Europe gathered together in the European Parliament and analysed with key European politicians the main issues regarding the disability sector: Mr. Juncker's Jobs, Growth and Investment package; the need for a stronger social dimension in the European Semester, the mid-term review of the Europe 2020 strategy, the work plan 2015-2020 of the European Disability Strategy and progress made in Europe regarding the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD), in particular the transition from institutional to community-based services. DELAROSE project 3rd steering group meeting and dissemination seminar held at SUPSI
On November 21st 2014, the third steering group meeting of DELAROSE Project was held at SUPSI (University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland) in Lugano, Switzerland. The meeting was led by the progress updates on all the work packages up to the mid-term point of the project. The revision of project progress was to ensure that the whole team will reach the aim to run a pilot DELAROSE programme in WIT, KFU and SUPSI in 2015. Read more

Art for All: Brussels closing events
The closing event of the European project Art for All – including an Art exhibition and final conference – has resonated the fruit of two years of work on the issues of Art and Disability. Organized by the Centre de la Gabrielle-MFPass and Pour la Solidarité–PLS, the event was held in Brussels on the 20th and 21st of November. Read more

EASPD annual conference on Employment in Zadar, Croatia
Some of the EASPD's member organisations have great experience in supporting professional insertion for persons with disabilities in the open labour market and in facilitating access to vocational training and the transition from school to employment. The conference will showcase best practises from across Europe on Employment and Disability. Thanks to the testimonies of employees and employers, participants will have the chance to understand what support persons with disabilities need to successfully integrate in the open labour market and to be able to access a job after finishing school.
