EASPD Side Event during the 8th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the UN CRPD
TITLE: "Development of co-produced community-based services to enjoy rights and be included in the community"
DAY & TIME: 10th June from 11:45 to 13:00
PLACE: United Nations Headquarters in New York (USA), Conference Room 3.
The development and the set-up of community-based person-centred support services, according to Article 19 of the UN CRPD (Living Independently and Being Included in the Community) poses many challenges for the different actors of society. This requires in the first place the set-up of de-institutionalisation processes and the transition to community based services that can support individual needs. Cooperation across stakeholders – including cooperation and co-production with users of services – is vital to ensure the development of truly inclusive societies, where participation and active involvement of persons with disabilities is a reality.
During the event the perspectives of 4 key actors of society will be presented:
- Support services: Mr Luk Zelderloo & Ms Sabrina Ferraina (EASPD) will discuss the role of support services and how they should be redesigned and developed in co-production with their users.
- Public Authorities: Mrs Inmaculada Placencia Porrero (European Commission) will present the role of the European Commission in facilitating the transition towards new types of services that are based in the community through the European Structural and Investment Funds.
- Disabled People Organisations: Mrs Catherine Naughton (EDF) will highlight the need for users to be part of the change required to be able to enjoy their rights under the UN CRPD.
- National representatives from Belgium and Slovenia: Mrs Sleurs (BE) and Mr Ursic (SI) will present the implementation of multi-stakeholder approach in practice.
