EASPD would like to promote better employment opportunities for persons with disabilities, and your help is needed. EASPD invites you to share your best practice, model, method or tool by participating in the EASPD EMPLOYMENT FOR ALL AWARD. Read more
 

NEW CAMPAIGN. Good practices on Employment: videos on Real Life Stories

Reaching Out: The Real Life Stories is a set of videos presenting examples on how to integrate people with disabilities into the labour market toward the inclusive society. The documentaries consist of three stories of employees with disabilities and employers from Finland, Belgium, and Hungary. These short films represent models of good practise on employment in the open labour market which enables them to make the transition from unwanted dependence to a full, productive and independent life through employment.  Each video is about 3-5 minutes long. EASPD celebrates the European Day of Persons with Disabilities!

To mark the celebration of the 2014 European Day of Persons with Disabilities [3.12], EASPD organised several conferences and meetings to follow up the political work that is currently been carried out together with its members. Read more

POLICY UPDATES

Press Release: “Employment Declaration: Opening the labour market to persons with disabilities”

In December 2014, the EASPD Board endorsed the new EASPD Employment Declaration which results from several months of consultations with EASPD’s members and stakeholders, in particular the members of EASPD’s Standing Committee on Employment. The final document analyses the situation in Europe regarding the participation of persons with disabilities in the open labour market and highlights the need to shift the focus away from a disability perspective on to a skills and competences perspective. Press Release. European Observatory of Human Resources: Getting a Job in the social care sector: what trends exist in Europe?

What is the situation for the workforce in the health and care sectors? Are there common trends in Europe when it comes to wages, working conditions and staff training requirements? How have budgetary cuts impacted the sector? Following the establishment of the European Observatory of Human Resources in 2014, EASPD now presents the first results of the research conducted by Prof. Dr. Jane Lethbridge. It maps the training and educational requirements in the disability sector, the workforce situation and future job creation potential of the social service provision. Read more
 

The disability Intergroup elects its new bureau

The Disability Intergroup of the European Parliament held this morning its first meeting after its re-establishment. During the meeting, the whole Bureau of the Disability Intergroup was elected, and now it consists of 4 co-presidents and 8 vice-presidents. This new structure will allow a broad consensus through which the Disability Intergroup can effectively promote the rights of persons with disabilities inside the European Parliament and in Europe. Newsflash December 2014 of the ENTELIS project

“ENTELIS - European Network for Technology Enhanced Learning in an Inclusive Society” - the project aims to address the digital divide and digital literacy of persons with disabilities has been through its first year 2014. We would like to introduce the December newsflash of this project. Read more
 

ERGO WORK – Joining academia and business for new opportunities in creating ERGOnomic WORK places

On the 21st and 22nd of January 2015, partners of the ERGO WORK project gathered in Salamanca, Spain to conduct the project 3rd meeting to review the past phase and prepare for the next phase of the project. During this 3rd partner meeting, the project management team gave the state of play of the project with a focus on the preparation of the Piloting phase, as well as dissemination and exploitation activities. Committee of Experts publish their opinion on Council of Europe’s Recommendation 361

The Committee of Experts on the Rights of People with Disabilities (DECS-RPD) has published their opinion on the Council of Europe’s recommendations promoting equal opportunities for people with disabilities, and their participation at a local and regional level. These are of course core values of the Council’s Disability Action Plan (2006-2015). Read more
 

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights promotes in Europe a better understanding of psychosocial disabilities

On 16 and 17 October 2014, the Regional Office for Europe (ROE) of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights organized in Brussels its fifth annual event dedicated to ‘Forgotten Europeans.’ Read more

Learning with Tablets – A New Erasmus+ Programme

Ever increasingly, educational institutions are beginning to incorporate the use of tablets and smart phones in their curricula. Not only can smart devices increase motivation to learn, particularly for the technology-centric ‘Net Generation', but also, they offer new possibilities for personalized and group learning. A plethora of Apps have been created to support people with learning disabilities. Read more
 

Take a Teacher Development Course in Greece this Summer with UDLnet

UDLnet (Universal Design for Learning), is organising a Summer School in Attica, Greece, from the 12-17th July this year. The course, ‘Teacher Competences fostering Inclusive Learning’ aims to make a positive impact on the development of students’ transversal competences, creativity, collaboration, and effective communication skills by promoting the use of real world, authentic learning activities. Participation can be funded via the Erasmus + programme. The deadline for application is March 4, 2015. Read more

EASPD annual conference on Employment in Zadar, Croatia

From 7 to 8 May 2015, the conference “Persons with Disabilities in Employment: Inclusion through Jobs - Making it Real” will showcase best practises from across Europe on employment and disability. Participants will have the chance to understand what support persons with disabilities need to successfully integrate in the open labour market and to be able to access a job after finishing school. The nominees of the Employment for All awards will be presenting their candidatures and the 6th May EASPD organises a Project Development Workshop.  Don’t miss this opportunity.
