Mixed messages from the European Commission on how the European Semester can implement the CRPD

EASPD organised a Seminar on how the European Semester can help to implement the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, following up on Marianne Thyssen’s positive statements in this regard. Representatives from the European Commission expressed mixed messages as to if the ES should be seen as a tool to implement the CRPD. The EC’s unclear stance represents a missed opportunity to fulfil the EU’s human rights obligations. Read more

 

Registration for the next EASPD Conference “Growing together” in Chisinau is now open!

EASPD organizes in cooperation with the Alliance of Organisations for People with Disabilities from Moldova and with the support of EurlyAid, Zero Project, Inclusion Europe, Unicef Moldova and SOIR Moldova is organising, the 21st-22nd April 2016, an international conference in Chisinau, Moldova on the state of play of early childhood intervention in Europe. The 2016 edition of the EASPD Project Development Workshop, organized on the occasion of EASPD Annual Conference on Early Intervention, will be dedicated to project assessment and evaluation, both at application and implementation stage. Read more

The Commission publishes the European Accessibility Act

The European Commission has published the European Accessibility Act. EASPD welcomes this step forward taken by the Commission, announced only one day before the celebration of the International Day of Persons with disabilities [3.12]. Read more

 

EU Alliance Against Disability Cuts

On the 2nd of December right before the International Day of persons with disabilities, the EU Alliance against disability cuts held an open meeting in the European Parliament hosted by MEP Richard Howitt (S&D, UK). The event provided an opportunity to take stock of the deleterious conditions in which many persons with disabilities find themselves after substantial cuts were applied by national governments to their allowances and support services. International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Tackling Barriers for Children & Young People with Disabilities

On the occasion of the European Day of Persons with Disabilities, on 7-8 December the European Commission and the European Disability Forum co-organized a two-day conference in Brussels with around 200 participants from all over Europe. Read more
 

SSE & EPSU call for action to unlock the job creation potential of the social services sector

The Working Group on Public Services of European Parliament Common Goods and Public Services Intergroup, hosted at the European Parliament on 1st December a public hearing to exchange on the need of unlocking job creation potential of the social services sector. Read more
 

European Parliament echoes “invest in children"!

In a historic move this week, the majority of Members of the European Parliament signed a declaration promoting investing in children. The Written Declaration was led by 11 MEPs from different political parties and is the most signed declaration since 2011. Read more
 

Launching of the new Council of Europe website on the European Social Charter

The launch of the website reflects the commitment of the Council of Europe to affirming social and economic rights at the European level. Read more
 

Open Call: Marie Curie ASSISTID programme 2016

The Marie Curie ASSISTID programme announces the opening of the 2016 Call for fellowships applications. The call will be open until 30th June 2016. Read more

 

PROJECT UPDATES

ERGO WORK recommendations for policy makers on creating more ergonomic workplaces for persons with disabilities

After the research carried out within the framework of the European project ERGO WORK, it became clearer that in the open labour market every person has different support needs.Therefore, the partnership of the project developed a document enlisting the recommendations for policy and other decision makers on the creation of a more inclusive employment strategy for persons with disabilities, with a special focus on developing individual ergonomic workplaces. AJuPID European project: a collection of promising practices for access to justice for persons with disabilities

The partners of the project AJuPID (Access to Justice for people with Intellectual Disabilities) which is co-funded by the European Union (EU) and coordinated by FEGAPEI, published the “Guide of promising practices on legal capacity and access to justice”. It is a guide that presents promising examples in Europe concerning support services for persons with intellectual disabilities. Read more
 

Final E-letter of the project “EQF meets ECVET”

After two years of intensive work, the European project “EQF meets ECVET” came to an end in November 2015. This European project seeks to address and solve the problems encountered by people with disabilities to complete official Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs and access mainstream programs instead of being offered tailor-made VET courses.  For that, the partners of the project have created a model of recognition of learning. These exhibitions have been created to allow to persons suffering from isolation, potential exclusion from society because of his/her mental or physical disabilities, confinement, disease, and with a proven talent in the field of visual arts, to exhibit and to help to sell their works.
