EU NEWS

The Commission proposes a Social Scoreboard to deepen the social dimension of the EMU

The difficulty for Europe in overcoming the crisis is largely due to the weaknesses in the current monetary union model, giving to national governments only one possibility to adjust their economies: through cost-cutting and ever-greater flexibility in the labour market. Such measures can destroy social cohesion in a given country and often have a disproportionate impact on lower-income groups. In fact, during the last years income polarisation has increased in the EU area, as emphasised by the EU Employment and Social Situation Quarterly Review of September 2013.Read more here 

Social Services Europe launches its Manifesto for next EU elections: 10 Recommendations to Put Social Health Care Services at  the Heart of a Stronger Social Europe

Social Services Europe, the network funded by EASPD together with other eight European not for profit social and health care service providers, launched its Manifesto for the next European elections.
The Manifesto calls on prospective members of the European Parliament to commit to support the provision of social and health care services, in particular the not for profit social and health care sectors, if elected to the European Parliament. It is based on the right to high quality, accessible, sustainable and affordable social and health care and is articulated around 10 recommendations.Read more here.
 

EASPD NEWS

EASPD conference in Istanbul, 27-28 September 2013

EASPD has just concluded its conference in Istanbul dedicated to the theme of employment. The conference, Employment of persons with disabilities - Raising awareness & employment opportunities, was opened by Commissioner Andor, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Family and Social Policies of Turkey, representatives of the ILO and the Council of Europe, the President of the Assembly of European Regions and by EASPD’s President Franz Wolfmayr. Project Development Workshop

EASPD’s Project Development Workshop this year took place on 26 September in Istanbul, it was attended by about 60 people. During the Workshop we gave a broad outline of the EU funding opportunities in the disability and social sector and we discussed 5 project ideas in small groups. The project ideas will be further developed, immediately, or when relevant funding streams will be identified. Read more here

New EASPD Members

The General Assembly has just approved the admission of three new members:

  • FEGAPEI - National Federation of Employers and Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities (UMO)
  • Vzw ‘den achtkanter’ (SAMO)
  • Association of Social Responsibility for Children and Youth- SKEP (SAMO) Read more here

Changes in EASPD:

During the General Assembly, EASPD elected its new Vice-President, Mr Brian O’Donnell, who is currently Chief Executive of the National Federation of Voluntary Bodies in Ireland. EASPD wishes him a fruitful work within the organization.

PROJECT UPDATES

BITSE halfway through its activities

BITSE is a research project, supported by the Lifelong Learning Programme, which seeks to improve the transition process and outcomes from school to employment for persons with disabilities. The project revolves around the identification of barriers to this transition process, the development of a toolkit through best practices to overcome these barriers and the production of recommendations for authorities and stakeholders.
Halfway through, the 14 BITSE partner organisations have identified barriers restricting the transition process common in all the partner countries. Read more here 

Journey to Belonging European Project

The Journey to Belonging European Project, funded through the Grundtvig Learning Partnerships, focused on building capacity and enhancing social inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities at times of transition, change and challenge.
The partners who participated in the Journey to Belonging Project were Ireland, Finland, Slovenia, France, Austria. Colleagues from Germany also joined us on the majority of the mobilities. Read more here

REMINDER: The European Song Festival 2014: ORGANISE YOUR NATIONAL CONTEST!

The European Song Festival 2014 (TESF) for people with intellectual disabilities will take place from 1 till 3 May 2014 in Stockholm, Sweden and is co-organised by Upplands Väsby Kommun and EASPD.

EASPD members have received an invitation per country to participate and organise their own respective national contest. In this way, each country can make their national selection and send the winner to the European Song Festival in Sweden. Read more here

Final ‘Ora’ conference: ‘improving the process of active guidance of persons with disabilities’

The European Think Tank ‘Pour la Solidarité’ organizes the final conference of the ORA project on “Improving the process of active guidance of persons with disabilities” with the support of all project partners. The final conference will be held on 2 December 2013 in Brussels at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). Read more here

European Award for Social Entrepreneurship and Disability: promoting social investment

The ONCE Foundation, in the framework of the European Network for Corporate Social Responsibility and Disability (CSR+D Network), with support of the European Commission, launches the 1st European Award for  and Disability: promoting social investment. Read more here

UNAPEI:Justice is made for Amélie

Established in 1960, the National Union of Associations of parents of persons with intellectual disabilities and their friends (Unapei) is a French association working for the representation and advocacy of people with intellectual disabilities and is member of EASPD. Read more here
