To Inclusive Education and BEYOND

‘To Inclusive Education and BEYOND ‘(BEYOND) is a Erasmus+ funded project, which aims to empower special schools and service providers supporting children with special needs, to facilitate the transition towards fully inclusive education systems.


The Project will run for 36 months starting on 01/09/2018 and finishing on 31/08/2021.

What will we do?

The project will provide special schools and service providers with access to targeted information on the potential role of support services, in the transition towards inclusive education, as well as coproduced training. These tools will enable special schools and service providers to promote the acquisition of skills and competencies and support mainstream schools with the transition towards inclusive settings.

Over the course of the project’s lifetime the project partners will:

  • Develop a 5- day training course for service providers and special schools on how they can help to facilitate the transition towards fully inclusive education systems;
  • Create a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on transition towards an inclusive education for all;
  • Provide 28 country factsheets on support services in education in each EU Member State;
  • Complete a study on the role of service providers in the transition towards inclusive education;
  • Complete a study on developing methodologies for an effective transition to inclusive education.

BEYOND partners meet in Paris for first training course on inclusive education


The European Association of Service providers for Persons with Disabilities (EASPD) is a wide European network which represents around 17.000 services across Europe and across disabilities. The main objective of EASPD is to promote the equalisation of opportunities for people with disabilities (through effective and high-quality service systems. The work of the organisation is based on the three interconnected pillars of Impact (European Policy), Innovation (Research & Development as well as implementation of international projects) and Information (for the members).



Kehitysvammaisten Palvelusäätiön- the Service Foundation for People with an Intellectual Disability (KVPS) is a national service provider and developer with its roots set in parent-led governance. The foundation supports people with an intellectual disability and others with special needs as well as their families. The foundation is committed to developing new innovations, which can make a difference in the lives of people with an intellectual disability and their families, and by doing so, improve the quality of life for all those concerned.

Centre de la Gabrielle

The Centre de la Gabrielle is a private, non-profit organisation founded in 1972. Today the Centre de la Gabrielle is an organisation with 300 employees who assist 500 children, young adults and adults with mental and/or intellectual disabilities. The Centre de la Gabrielle aims to develop new solutions in order to provide social inclusion for people with disabilities, by promoting empowerment and de-institutionalisation, in accordance with Article 19 of the UN CRPD.


Katholiek Onderwijs Vlaanderen

Katholiek Onderwijs Vlaanderen is a public authority and the official institution, recognised and funded by the Flemish department of education, responsible for the support of Catholic schools in Flanders. Katholiek Onderwijs Vlaanderen represents approximately 1400 schools in primary education, more than 600 schools in secondary education and approximately 150 special needs schools. Katholiek Onderwijs Vlaanderen aims to help and support the schools and educational authorities they represent to fulfil their public mission regarding learning, teaching and education.

Chance B

Chance B was founded in 1986 as a ‘self-help association’ by parents with children and young people with disabilities as well as by teacher of the Giesdorf special school for children with intellectual disabilities. The aim of the association is ‘to assist and support old, ill and people with disabilities so that they can live life to the full’ in their villages. For this purpose, Chance B has worked out and set up support services for people of any age to compensate for possible disadvantages due to disabilities in their efforts to pursue an independent way of life.

C.E.C.D Mira Sintra

C.E.C.D. Mira Sintra - Centro de Educação para o Cidadão com Deficiência, C.R.L. (Education Centre for Persons with Disability) is a Cooperative for Social Solidarity, a non-profit organisation and was recognized by the Government as an organization of Public Utility. At the present, provides services for more than 2.000 people, since toddlers, children, youth and adults who need specialised support, due to problems in their development and/or deficits in academic, work or social performance.

University College Leuven-Limburg

University College Leuven-Limburg (UCLL) is renowned for the high quality of its teaching, research and regional development. UCLL’s strong commitment to research ensures state-of-the-art training programmes for its 15,000 students. Within the teacher education department of UCLL a centre of expertise concerning education for all is active. This centre aims to develop projects in the areas of inclusion and participation.
