Title: The Employment of Persons with Disabilities: Raising Awareness & Employment Opportunities

The conference, Employment of persons with disabilities - Raising awareness & employment opportunities, was opened by Commissioner Andor, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Family and Social Policies of Turkey, representatives of the ILO and the Council of Europe, the President of the Assembly of European Regions and by EASPD’s President Franz Wolfmayr.
The conference, attended by 350 participants from all over Europe and beyond, marked an important milestone in the cause for people with disabilities’ employment opportunities in the labour market. Cooperation with employers has been widely explored and analysed and commitment by big multinationals in adopting CSR policies within their companies has been made. The conference focused on sustainable, tailor made and inclusive solutions and examples of best practices presented during conference led the way to what is a hard but not impossible objective.
During the conference an official award was given to the Institute for Social Services (IFS) of Austria with their project Spagat. For more information on the contest and the winners click here.

By sharing challenges and best practices the conference aims to remove barriers and boost the employment for persons with disabilities.

The Conference has:

  • highlighted the impact of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Right to Work and Employment (Art. 27)
  • promoted exchange between employers, employees, persons with disabilities and social services and showed models of good practice that have evidence-based results
  • identified the necessary steps to create a positive synergy between employers and employees
  • launched the building blocks for a new EASPD Declaration on Employment.
