The Award Ceremony of the 2nd European Award for Social Entrepreneurship and Disability: Promoting Social Investment, has been officially announced by Fundación ONCE. The awards are organised within the framework of the European Network for Corporate Social Responsibility and Disability (CSR+D), co-funded by the European Social Fund and are led by Fundación ONCE.
The Ceremony will take place the 1st July at the Philantrophy House in Brussels with the collaboration of the European Foundation Centre, and will be hosted by the European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility, Marianne Thyssen.
During the ceremony, both the Winner and Highly Commended project by the Jury will be awarded. Social entrepreneur Kristina Tsvetanova, and her project “BLITAB, First Tablet for Blind and Visually Impaired People” came out as the winner of the 2nd European Award for Social Entrepreneurship and Disability. BLITAB is a tablet device that uses an innovative reading and writing technology based on the Braille system with the aim of favouring social and labour inclusion for blind or visually impaired people.
On the other hand, Lorenzo Pompei, from Italy, was highly commended by the Jury for his project Marioway. This project is based on a traditional wheelchair that includes advances in terms of technology, ergonomics and design, with the aim of improving the quality of life of people with paraplegia.
The aim of this Award is to identify and promote social entrepreneurship projects and to contribute to giving people with disabilities a leading role in the European model for sustainable economic growth.
