After almost three years of work as Policy and Communications Officer, Irene Bertana is leaving EASPD. She wishes to thank everyone for the opportunity that she had to be part of the ‘EASPD family’ and we would like to thank her for the enthusiasm she put in her work and wish her good luck for her new adventure. In fact, Irene is leaving Europe for a one-year trip in South America, where she and her brother will search for alternative ways of living and of organising economies.
They will meet people that are part of workers’ cooperatives, farmers’ movements, fair trade organisations, barter networks, professors and many others. They will interview them while cooking and they will share their stories as well as their recipes on their blog and facebook page. She also started a campaign, where you can fund her and support her project.
We would also like to welcome a new member of staff, Thomas Bignal, who will be replacing Irene in her position as Policy & Communications Officer. This will be the second time Thomas has worked for us as he enjoyed a three month stay as a volunteer in 2013 where he was in charge of formalising the new website.
Thomas has over 3 years of experience in Brussels working for a broad variety of EU-related organisations; for a regional representation, the Committee of the Regions, a private sector lobby group and over the past year for various European NGOs. Thomas has a Master’s in International Law and is fluent in both English and French. We believe he has the skills, experience and potential to be a success here at EASPD and we wish him all the luck in his position.
