The European Disability movement demands the right to vote in 2019

For many persons with disabilities across Europe the right to vote and take part in democracy is a right that they are unable to enjoy. Common issues, such as stairs in polling stations; long, complicated instructions; unreadable voting ballots and the deprivation of a legal right to vote all contribute to the inaccessibility of voting practices.

As part of their work, to ensure that the European elections of 2019 will be accessible for all, the European Disability Forum has launched its “European elections for all” petition. The petition calls on the leaders of the EU’s governments, to uphold the EU’s democratic values and ensure that all of their citizens, regardless of their support needs, are able to enjoy their human right to vote.
