Registrations for the EASPD 20th anniversary events open
EASPD opened the registrations for the 20th anniversary events in Brussels from 19th to 20th October 2016. Read more
EASPD and its key partners call on the EU to act on social care
EASPD organised a policy seminar on job creation in social services in the European Parliament on the 28th of June. Members of the European Parliament (MEP), representatives from social services, trade unions and organisations representing persons with disabilities called on the European Commission (EC) and the European Parliament (EP) to do more to support high quality social care – through adequately trained professionals - in Europe. EASPD presents models of good practice on legal capacity and early childhood intervention at United Nations
EASPD organised two side events in cooperation with the European Union and the Zero Project during the 9th Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD). Models of good practice on supported decision making mechanisms and on early childhood fueled the debate on the sustainable development goals and the steps required for the implementation of a human rights approach. EC must safeguard adequate investment in community-based services in Country Specific Recommendations
The European Commission (EC) recently published its 2016 country-specific recommendations (CSRs) to Member States. Following positive statements on the way social care and support should be provided in the last few years by the European Commission, the European Expert Group on the Transition from Institutional to Community-Based Care (EEG) welcomes several recommendations promoting quality care and support and access to employment and inclusive education for disadvantaged groups. Nonetheless, the overall focus on austerity will be detrimental to the transition to community-based services in Europe, if no safeguards are made available for public investment in this area. Stakeholder cooperation and involvement of persons with disabilities key to develop community-based services
From 16 to 17 June 2016 the members of the EASPD Standing Committee on Inclusive Living co-organised the conference “New dimension in social protection towards community-based living” to address the development of community-based services and de-institutionalisation in Hungary. Read more
Joint Statement: The Alliance for Investing in Children welcomes Council Conclusions acknowledging the need to address child poverty
The Conclusions adopted by the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumers Affairs Council on Combatting Poverty and Social Exclusion: An integrated approach, are a welcome step in addressing child poverty and promoting children’s well-being. Read more

New survey on cross-border healthcare Directive launched
The organisation International Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus together with the European Disability Forum and the European Patients Forum have launched a survey on the cross-border healthcare Directive, a great opportunity for people to share their experience with cross border healthcare. Read more
MHE launches video on Article 12 of the UNCRPD
This short animated video seeks to explain what legal capacity is all about and recalls that everyone has the inherent right to make their own choices including people with psychosocial disabilities. Read more
COFACE re-elects president, welcomes new board members and launches new name during its 2016 General Assembly
The European network, COFACE, announced that Mrs Annemie Drieskens has been re-elected as president and forms together with Mrs Antonia Torrens, Mr Jean Bernard Audureau and Mr Eric de Wasch the new Executive Bureau. Also, the members of the Administrative Council have been elected at COFACE’s General Assembly 2016 held on 7th of June. With a new director, Liz Gosme and a new policy officer, Magdi Birtha, this marks a fresh new start for COFACE. Read more
