Learning with Tablets – A New Erasmus+ Programme

Ever increasingly, educational institutions are beginning to incorporate the use of tablets and smart phones in their curricula. Not only can smart devices increase motivation to learn, particularly for the technology-centric ‘Net Generation’, but also, they offer new possibilities for personalized and group learning. A plethora of Apps have been created to support people with learning disabilities. These, as well as the tablet’s own accessibility features, offer educators great potential to support the inclusion of learners with additional support needs.

As a response, this year FAIDD and Atempo will be organising ‘Tablet Courses,’ a series of training programmes aimed at providing educators with the know-how on how to incorporate tablet use in their education programmes, in order to increase the quality of teaching and learning in their organization or school.

The course will cover:

  • Implementation of tablets in an educational organization
  • Best practice examples drawn from several European countries
  • Education and collaboration platforms for tablets
  • Accessibility features of tablets
  • Apps for people with learning disabilities (alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), reading and writing, mathematics, etc.)
  • Apps market – sharing experiences and practical trials of different programs
  • Creative learning with tablets
  • Enhanced learning with augmented reality apps
  • Safe internet use
  •  Local educational study visits
  • Support communication, learning and self-expression using the camera and other multimedia apps

European orientation:

An essential part of the courses is the European orientation. An international team of instructors will provide the training, and provide participants with the possibility to network and share professional experience with colleagues from all over Europe. The courses are organized together by five different European organizations: atempo (Austria), FAIDD (Finland), The Rix Centre (UK), UrAbility (Irland) and ITA (Germany).

Target Group:

The target groups suit all professionals working in schools, adult and vocational education or in the field of education of people with additional support needs, and will be taking place in both Finland and Austria throughout 2015-16. The course fee is 500 €, however, there is scope under the EU-mobility project of the Erasmus+ programme, to apply for a grant to cover cost of fees as well as travel and accommodation.
