Press release. Another human rights scandal: time for the EU to act!
Once again we are witnessing unacceptable living conditions of persons with disabilities in Europe. A new scandal has been recently denounced by the media. On this occasion the alarm has occurred in a Greek center for disable children run by the Greek State. Reported by the BBC, the information describes the terrible living conditions in a center in Lechaina, a small town in the south of the Hellenic country. Read more
For the defense and promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities
The implementation of the rights of persons with disabilities was the topic of the meeting between the President of the European Disability Forum (EDF), Yannis Vardakastanis, and EDF's Acting Director, Javier Güemes, with the European Ombudsman, Emily O’Reilly, that took place on the 11th November in Brussels. Progress towards Independent living in Central and Eastern Europe
The EASPD Standing Committee on Enlargement is embarking on an in-depth research regarding the independent living and legal capacity of persons with disabilities (PwD). The research targets only Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Read more
Employment For All Award 2015
EASPD continues to encourage social services and employers active in all European countries to present their best practices that have proven to be effective in creating better employment- and career- opportunities for people with disabilities. Both social organizations (for profit and not for profit) and employers from all over Europe are invited to participate in the second edition of this Award; the European Prize for best practices in supporting People with disabilities on the labour-market. Improving Diversity through Supported Employment
The European Union of Supported Employment (EUSE) and the Portuguese Association of Supported Employment (APEA) organise the 12th European Conference of Supported Employment, which will take place in Lisbon (Portugal) from the 27th to the 29th of May 2015 at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Juncker’s investment package still misses a strong social dimension
Following European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker's presentation of his ?315 billion ‘Jobs, Growth and Investment Package' to the European Parliament [Nov 26], Social Platform warns that the European Social Model will not survive unless a serious commitment is made to invest in ambitious and integrated social policies. EASPD endorses the Social Platform's concerns but also regrets the lack of reference to job creation potential in the social services sector. Read more

EASPD is organising in cooperation with Social Platform a hearing in the European Parliament on the EU horizontal social clause. The event will focus on a study written by Professor Nikolaus Dimmel on how the social clause could be used to push for a more Social Europe. Read more
