Registrations Open! 'Social Services in the EU: A Reality Check'

Since its introduction in 2010, the European Semester process has aimed to facilitate economic cohesion and boost sustainable economic growth across the European Union. Despite the dominance of economic and fiscal policies, the message, that the European Semester must focus on social issues if it is to be successful in its aim, has grown increasingly clear.

As the European Semester process has become more and more focused on the European Union’s social issues, including the provision of social services, EASPD has worked to show how the provision of high-quality, person centred support services is key to sustainable and inclusive economic growth and the full implementation of the UN CRPD.

As a part of this work, on the 12th of September 2019, from 13h30 to 17h, EASPD will host their seminar: ‘Social Services in the EU: A Reality Check.’ The event will bring together service providers organisations from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Latvia, Romania and Spain to provide a reality check on the present barriers in their country for sustainable and high-quality services.

The event will mark the release of EASPD’s 2019 European Semester Report, with key policy messages and possible solutions to the barriers encountered by EASPD members at grassroots level. EU policy-makers, notably from the European Commission, will also be present to explain how they see the future of the Semester and the social shift in it.
