Towards Creative Inclusion in Adult Education

Tuesday, September 18, 2018 - 09:30 to 14:00

Adults with disabilities have the right to utilise their creative, artistic and intellectual potential as everybody else and to receive appropriate instruction, training and resources to do so. At least, according to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

As signatories of the Convention, the EU and its Memeber States, as well as civil society, still have a lot to do to ensure inclusion of adults with disabilities in arts education. Therefore, we are organising an event in which we will discover good practices and opportunities of improvement as we bring together policy-makers, artists, teachers, cultural centres, service providers and organisations of persons with disabilities.

The first multiplier event of the CIAE project will take place next 18th of September at the EESC premises in Brussels, Belgium. Participants will discuss the main challenges and opportunities for the inclusion of adult learners with disabilities in arts education in Europe and the first outcomes of the CIAE Project will be presented.

The event will have 4 parts:

  • Round table “The European Policy Framework”. Presentation of the CIAE report on the state of play of arts education for adults with disabilities in Europe and debate with high-level guests on the European policy framework.
  • Discovering promising practices. A collation and guidelines of good practices in the field of arts education for adults with disabilities will be showcased, as guests from different European countries will explain their own good practice examples in first person.
  • Open dynamic debate: "Sharing ideas and experiences for a creative inclusion in adult education". This dynamic debate session will bring participants from different backgrounds the opportunity to know more about the good practices, comment their own experiences, exchange ideas and share proposals to improve the outcomes of the CIAE Project.
  • Networking lunch: "Bringing stakeholders together". This free lunch will provide participants with the opportunity to meet each other and strengthen the collaboration among stakeholders and organisations in the field of adult education for persons with disabilities.
