In Europe during the last European elections, while nearly 500.000 people with disabilities who could not vote before were granted the right to vote following reforms, 800.000 people were still denied the right to vote. On the top the existing legal barriers, many people with disabilities also face many obstacles that prevent them from voting and more generally, to participate in the political life of their community.
To address these issues and develop solutions to support people with disabilities to participate more in political life and make their voice heard, the solution can be found in co-production. In the disability field, co-production is an inclusive working practice between experts by experience (people with disabilities), families, service providers, public authorities and other stakeholders according to the topic discussed.
TCoface Families Europe, the European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities, the European Disability Forum, the European Network on Independent Living, Inclusion Europe and Mental Health Europe, would like to invite you to a hearing in the European Parliament on Tuesday November 19th, 10:00 – 12:00, to discuss how coproduction and the involvement of all stakeholders can help overcome these issues.
This event will be the opportunity for policy makers, service providers, persons with disabilities and families to exchange their experiences and point of view and try to find some common perspective.
The event will prsent the findings of the recent Taskforce study that explored how co-produced solutions have been developed in Belgium, Czech Republic, France and Malta and will aldo give an opportunity for all to discuss together on the existing barriers to political participation and how the solutions that are being “co-produced” can support a better inclusion of people.
Those intrested in attending the event should contact Timothy Ghilain, Senior Policy Officer.
