The EP political groups joined forces to support the rights of persons with disabilities

On Wednesday 5th June the leaders of the main political groups of the European Parliament (EPP group, S&D group, ALDE group, Greens/EFA group and GUE/NGL group) joined forces to support the rights of persons with disabilities in Europe. In preparation of this event, EASPD participated in a meeting with the European United Left and the Nordic Green Left. The meeting tackled the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the European policy-making process and the impact of the crisis on the situation of persons with disabilities.

EASPD response to the consultation on a draft General Block Exemption Regulation (the GBER) on state aid measures

Article 107 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) defines what State Aid is and when it is compatible with the internal market. According to Article 108 the Council may determine additional categories of aid that are compatible with internal market or allow the Commission to do so through regulations.

Change in Staff

In June we have seen the departure of two people in our staff: Geneviève Crémer and David Alsembach.  

Geneviève worked especially on the INVESTT project, while David was project and Membership assistant and he worked, together with the EASPD team and members, on the Annual Report 2012.

EASPD thanks them for their precious collaboration and wishes them good luck for their personal and professional future.

THE EASPD BOARD RENEWS ITS COMMITTMENT TO CARRY ON THE DE-INSTITUTIONALISATION PROCESS

On 30th May 2013 the Board members of EASPD gathered to discuss de-institutionalisation and the promotion of community based-services and take stock of the situation in Europe. EASPD launched a Press release on this topic.

 

STATE OF PLAY

In its Press Release, EASPD calls for a stop of the re-institutionalisation process which is currently taking place in some Member States, as a consequence of austerity measures, lack of consciousness, old mentality, medical approach and bad use of structural funds.

Change in EASPD Staff

It is with regret that we have recently seen the departure of two of our trainees, Francesco La Rocca and Riccardo Beltrame. Both had been working for us over the past year and have contributed significantly to the work of the office during this time.

EASPD wishes them luck in further developing their respective careers, be it in their home country, Italy, or elsewhere. We can be sure that they will bring an added value to whatever professional opportunity they find in the future, each with their own respective qualities.

European Thematic Network on Assistive information Technology

EASPD is involved in this project, supported by the European Commission through the CIP ICT-PSP programme. The ETNA network involves 23 European leading organisations, each with acknowledged commitment to ICT and Assistive technologies (AT) in 13 countries. It is coordinated by the Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer of the Don Carlo Gnocchi Foundation (Italy).
