We are looking for good practices on Early Childhood Intervention

EASPD’s project ECI Greece is inviting applications for best practices in the area of Early Childhood Intervention from various providers across Europe supporting children with disabilities and their families.

EASPD is inviting applications for best practices in the area of Early Childhood Intervention from providers across Europe supporting children with disabilities and their families. This is part of the project “Technical Support to implement reforms to support the development of family centred early childhood intervention services in Greece”.

What is a best-case practice in Early Childhood Intervention?

Early intervention is a system of coordinated services that promotes the child's age-appropriate growth and development and supports families during the critical early years. As a best-case practice in ECI we define an intervention that produces optimal results in maximising the child's physical, cognitive, and social/emotional development while respecting the diversity of families and communities.

In order to be eligible, the best-case ECI practice should:

  • Recognise the central role the family plays in a child’s life. All families are encouraged to be included and contribute to their child’s learning and development.

  • Be inclusion focused. The practice promotes the engagement of all children, regardless of their needs, in all aspects of life. Therefore, it fosters learning in natural environments such as daily routines, at home, and in the community.

  • Adopt evidence and outcome-based approaches. Early childhood intervention professionals provide services that are grounded in research and clinical reasoning.

  • Includes well trained professionals from various disciplines and different backgrounds as to meet the diverse needs of targeted children and ensure quality teamwork.

  • Be implemented in a European country outside of Greece.

 Selection Process

  • The practices submitted will be evaluated by the ECI Greece project team and the selection committee.

  • The selection committee will rate the proposals following the eligibility criteria mentioned above.

  • The chosen practices will be published in a report made available to EASPD for further dissemination. This report will serve as service models for relevant organisations in Greece and guide positive legislative initiatives.
