On August 8, 2019 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between EASPD and the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD). The document was signed by Dr Philip W. Davidson, President of IASSIDD and Dr Fabrizio Fea, Vice President of EASPD. Dr Colleen Adnams, IASSIDD President Elect, Dr Vianne Timmons, IASSIDD Past President, Dr Alice Schippers, IASSIDD Vice President for Europe and Dr Amy Hunter of Regina University were present at the event.
The MoU is an important agreement between IASSIDD and EASPD expressing willingness to collaborate and take a common line of action in bringing research and innovation closer to service providers and to encourage evidence-based practices.
As underlined by Dr Fea, "IASSIDD and EASPD move on a comparable path that gives a fundamental contribution to implement and promote the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.”
Under the MoU, the parties agreed to collaborate on topics of mutual interest to exchange knowledge, organise events and meetings. In particular, IASSIDD and EASPD commit to collaborate in the coming months on the topics of Health and Ageing.
The parties also committed to offer several benefits to each other’s members.
Both IASSIDD and EASPD look forward to putting into practice this MOU to improve the understanding of intellectual disabilities and to help create a more inclusive, fulfilling, and accepting society for people with intellectual disabilities.
