Draft Guidelines on Deinstitutionalisation of Persons with Disabilities, including in emergencies by the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
The UN Committee on the rights of persons with disabilities has published draft Guidelines on deinstitutionalisation for persons with disabilities, including in emergency situations. These Guidelines will provide guidance to parties to the Convention, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to support their efforts to implement the right of persons with disabilities to live independently and be included in the community. They will also complement the Committee’s General Comment No. 5 (2017) on article 19 on the right to live independently and be included in the community, and its Guidelines under article 14 on the right to liberty and security of persons with disabilities.
The Committee invites all relevant stakeholders, to provide written submissions on the draft Guidelines on Deinstitutionalisation, by 30 June 2022. The Guidelines and more information can be found here: www.ohchr.org/en/calls-for-input/calls-input/call-submissions-draft-guidelines-deinstitutionalization-including.
EASPD will provide a written submission in cooperation with its members and therefore invites EASPD members to join this Policy Café to develop EASPD’s position.
